The 97th National Alpine Gathering arrives in Genoa

With the traditional “passing of the cue” from President Marco Fulcheri of the Biella ANA section to President Stefano Pansini of the Genoa ANA section, the venue for the 97th edition of the National Alpine Gathering (ANA) was officially announced: our beautiful Genoa.

The Alpine Gathering is one of the most attended civil events nationwide and, probably, also the largest in the world among those organized by a military association. Around 400,000 people are expected to attend the Genoa event, from May 8th to May 10th, including retired Alpine troops, families, representatives of volunteer associations, and citizens.

Maurizio Pinamonti, president of the 2026 Gathering organizing committee, said: “It will be a sober but well-attended gathering, built with the silent work of thousands of volunteers and with the open heart of a city ready to welcome.”

The highlight of the event will be the parade on Sunday, May 10, which will see the participation of approximately 90,000 Alpine troops, accompanied by fanfares, choirs, and historic groups, along the city streets.

The whole of Genoa will be involved in the celebrations: from the historic center to the Porto Antico, passing through iconic sites such as the Palazzo Ducale, the Palazzo della Borsa, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, and Piazza della Vittoria.

The president of the Genoa ANA Section emphasized how the city, despite being seaside, fully shares the Alpine spirit: “Behind our coast rise mountains that have forged tough and supportive characteristics, the same ones we find in the Alpine troops. This gathering is a homecoming for our community and for all of Liguria”.

Confirming his words, we know that Genoa is the birthplace of historical figures such as Goffredo Mameli and Michele Novaro, authors of our National Anthem, and of protagonists of the Risorgimento such as Giuseppe Mazzini and Nino Bixio.
