Protecting Rights Through Concrete Action: Genoa Opens New LGBTQ+ Office

11/02/2026

"The rights of each and every individual must be translated into concrete actions," declared the Mayor of Genoa, Silvia Salis, who was honored in Rome on February 4th during the fourth edition of the "2026 Rainbow Awards." On this occasion, the Mayor was celebrated as "Political Figure of the Year" for her unwavering commitment to promoting, protecting, and advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

This recognition coincides with the establishment of the LGBTQ+ Rights Office within the Municipality of Genoa. The office is designed to implement inclusive public services, combat all forms of discrimination, and raise general awareness throughout the city on crucial issues such as homobitransphobia.

The leadership of the office has been entrusted to Ilaria Gibelli, a Genoese attorney already well-known locally for her dedication to defending civil rights.

This initiative is further proof of an administration that does not merely reject hostility but responds with programs ensuring that no one is left behind. This path of progress—consistent with the Mayor’s earlier recognition of children of same-sex couples at the start of her term—confirms Genoa as a modern city that puts people first and guarantees respect for everyone’s rights and the protection of minorities.
