LIS4: The Innovative Immersive Simulation Laboratory of the University of Genoa for the Training of the Future

 

The University of Genoa has inaugurated the immersive simulation laboratory LIS4 of the Department of Health Sciences – Dissal. This technologically advanced space is designed for the training of healthcare professionals, university students, and corporate staff, offering an immersive and interactive learning experience thanks to the Gener8 Healthcare software.

 

The laboratory, funded with approximately 150,000 euros, is a dynamic environment with touch-sensitive walls and a projection system on three walls for a 270° visualization. It uses touch software for multi-touch interactions, promoting collaborative learning. LIS4 can integrate various software and digital resources, making simulations realistic and customizable.

 

LIS4 includes surround sound, adjustable lighting, floor resonators, and devices to generate smoke, wind, and scents, enhancing the realism of the simulations. It is equipped with audiovisuals, cameras, and microphones to facilitate activities and debriefing sessions, managed by a video control room.

 

The training purposes of LIS4 are divided into four areas: Healthcare, Nursing, Education, and Corporate. In the healthcare field, LIS4 simulates emergencies and clinical environments to improve the practical skills of doctors and nurses. In education, LIS4 offers innovative teaching methodologies for various disciplines. For companies, LIS4 provides training on workplace safety, recreating work environments and risk scenarios.
