Genova, Capital of the Blue Economy: The Triumphal Return of the Amerigo Vespucci
On 10 June 2025, on the occasion of Navy Day, Genova proudly celebrated the return of the world's most beautiful training ship: the Amerigo Vespucci. After an epic two-year voyage around the globe, the ship returned home, moored at Ponte Parodi, welcomed by an excited crowd and the highest institutional offices.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Liguria Region, the Mayor of Genova, the Italian Minister of Defence, the Navy Chief of Staff, the Defence Chief of Staff, and the President of the Italian Republic, who expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Navy crews. To make the moment even more evocative, the passage of the "Frecce Tricolori" (Tricolour Arrows) and the spectacular launch of the Navy's paratroopers.
At 7.00 p.m., in the Mandraccio area of the Old Port, Minister Crosetto officially inaugurated the "Villaggio Italia" (Italy Village), the largest ever built. This immersive space tells the public about the voyage of the Amerigo Vespucci and the Italian Navy's commitment in the world.
The village will be open until 15 June 2025, offering a unique experience of multimedia content, meetings, exhibitions and shows. Among the most eagerly awaited performances will be those of the Navy Band, the Fanfare of the 3rd Carabinieri Regiment Lombardy, and the Band of the “Folgore” Parachute Brigade.
To crown the arrival of the Amerigo Vespucci, the “Il Ritorno da un viaggio epico” ceremony celebrated the end of its world tour with an extraordinary event: the performance of the “Meravigliosa” orchestra, made up of 250 members of the military bands and the Choir of Genova's Carlo Felice Theatre. This was accompanied by an exciting Drone Show over the harbour and a preview of the song “Meravigliosa”, performed by Serena Autieri.
The Amerigo Vespucci will be open until 15 June, upon reservation on the official website: tourvespucci.it/genova-10-15-june-2025.
Genova once again proves to be the Capital of the sea, an international reference point for the Blue Economy and the living guardian of its glorious naval tradition.
