Genoa, a leading-edge technology hub, is preparing to host a European Gigafactory
Genova is establishing itself as one of Europe's leading technology hubs, thanks to the presence of centres of excellence such as the Italian Institute of Technology, Liguria Digitale, Leonardo S.p.A. and the DaVinci-1 supercomputer. The city has a dynamic ecosystem in which research, industry and institutions work together to promote the digital transformation of the region.
In this context, the Liguria Region and Leonardo S.p.A. have responded to the European Commission's call for expressions of interest for the creation of 13 AI Factories and 5 Gigafactories. Genova is thus preparing to host a European Gigafactory dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence, drawing on its expertise, academic and corporate talent, and digital infrastructure of excellence.
The formal call for tenders will be launched by the end of 2025 through the EuroHPC programme, opening up new opportunities to strengthen Italy's digital sovereignty and further enhance Genova's strategic role in the European technological landscape.
