From the mountains to the coast: Liguria tells its story with the 2026 Wild Expedition
12 months, 4 seasons, 440 km: the 2026 Wild Expedition Liguria presents itself as the slowest expedition in the world, a regenerative journey to rediscover Liguria's most authentic self; an experience that overturns the concept of travel, seen no longer as a race but rather as a profound experience.
The proposal, approved by the city council, was promoted by the councilor for Tourism and Territorial Marketing, Tiziana Beghin, who emphasizes that «Genoa boasts an artistic heritage of extraordinary value, but its beauty is not limited to the historic center, the Via dei Rolli, or the historic villas. The city in fact has a unique natural heritage in Italy, capable of uniting coasts and mountains, beaches and woods».
The aim of the initiative is to support a 12-month expedition that will cross the entire coastal and mountain range of Liguria, with stops designed to explore the wildest and most hidden places in Liguria. The activities planned are numerous and varied: trekking, kayaking, biking, and locally grown food are just some of the experiences that await participants.
The first stage of the project is scheduled for February 2026, starting in Ventimiglia and arriving in Bocca di Magra by land. From here the route will continue backwards by sea, returning to Ventimiglia in February 2027, exactly one year later.
The Wild Expedition Liguria 2026 is thus configured as an itinerary in which Genoa takes on the role of a central figure: a symbolic and real meeting point between land and sea.
