Liguria and Italian Institute of Technology: a new European partnership in Brussels

13/04/2026

Regione Liguria aims to strengthen its role in Europe by establishing a new partnership with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), a research institution based in Genoa with international relevance, recognized as a scientific excellence of the territory for its contribution to the development of innovative technologies.

The Regional Government has already approved the draft Framework Agreement, with a duration of five years and renewable, which provides for activities of common interest at the Liguria office in Brussels. The goal is to develop a strategic collaboration between the two entities, capable of generating added value for the Ligurian territory through the launch of joint projects and initiatives within the European Union.

This is the second agreement signed by Regione Liguria with an internationally recognized research institution based in the territory: in 2025, an agreement had already been signed with the University of Genoa, focused on promoting collaboration in Brussels and extracurricular internships related to Europe and EU project design, in order to bring young Ligurian graduates closer to European institutions and develop new professional skills.

Among the main areas of interest are ecological and digital transition, the development of research and innovation, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, and applications in key sectors such as life sciences and environmental protection. In order to support the collaboration, a joint technical coordination Committee will also be established between Regione Liguria and IIT, with the aim of defining shared action guidelines to be followed in Brussels and ensuring the effectiveness of the planned activities.
