Red Bull Cerro Abajo returns to Genoa: the world-class urban downhill spectacle through the creuze and caruggi
Genova is preparing to host once again one of the most spectacular and adrenaline-fuelled sporting events on the international scene. Red Bull Cerro Abajo will return to the Ligurian capital on 27 and 28 June, confirming the city as the exclusive European stop on the world circuit at least until 2027, following the huge success of the 2024 and 2025 editions.
The competition will bring some of the world’s best riders to the city, ready to compete on a one-of-a-kind urban course. The 2.2-kilometre route, with a vertical drop of 279 metres, winds its way from Monte Peralto to Largo della Zecca, passing through creuze and caruggi, amongst stairways, tight bends and technical obstacles specially integrated into the urban landscape.
It is precisely these distinctive features, linked to the city’s layout and its historical heritage, that have helped to make the Genova stage iconic. In the 2025 edition, the event attracted between 35,000 and 40,000 spectators along the route, turning into a veritable public festival, enriched by side events and activities organised in the Porto Antico area.
Significant changes are planned for 2026. The event, traditionally held in late summer, is being brought forward to the first warm days of June, helping to kick off the city’s summer season with an event of great international appeal.
A further development concerns media coverage: in addition to being broadcast on Red Bull TV, the race will also be shown live on Mediaset 20 (channel 20 on digital terrestrial television and Tivùsat, channel 151 on Sky) and on the Sportmediaset website, significantly expanding the potential audience.
The race is scheduled for Sunday 28 June at 4.15 pm, whilst qualifying will take place on Saturday 27 June.
The event also reaffirms its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility: once again in 2026, Red Bull Genova Cerro Abajo will be free to attend, allowing residents, fans and visitors to watch for free from the designated viewing points along the course.
On the sporting front, the spotlight is on the stars of previous editions. Tomáš Slavík, the 2024 winner, and Roger Vieira, the 2025 champion, are returning, ready to face off once again against a group of international competitors determined to end their dominance. Also competing is Lucas Vega from Liguria, who will be able to count on the support of the home crowd.
With this event, Genova reaffirms its status as the European capital of urban downhill, strengthening its position amongst international destinations capable of combining sport, entertainment and the promotion of the urban environment and landscape.
