Genova has received a prestigious recognition from ASviS – Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development, which awarded the Municipality the Certificate of Good Territorial Practice for a More Sustainable Italy 2024. The award was presented during the Genoese stage of the Sustainable Development Festival 2025, held at Palazzo Ducale, and represents an important milestone for the city in its journey towards the UN 2030 Agenda goals.

The recognition was granted in particular for the Genova Global Goals Award (GGGA) project, an initiative that for years has involved schools, businesses, associations, and institutions in a shared path of sustainability, innovation, and active citizenship.

The GGGA is a competition of ideas and projects created to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The initiative, conceived by the Municipality of Genoa in collaboration with the Genova Smart City Association, is part of the broader framework of the Genova 2031 Strategic Marketing Plan and the Genova Lighthouse – Action Plan 2050.

Each edition of the competition is thematic and aims to enhance the contribution of local stakeholders, from schools to businesses, in building a fairer, greener, and more resilient city.

The Blue Edition 2024 focused on the enhancement of the sea and its resources, in line with Genoa’s maritime identity. The final event was held on November 14, 2024, at the Blue District, with the participation of over 40 projects from schools, startups, public and private entities.

The current edition, now underway, was presented during the 13th edition of Euroflora. It is the Urban Green Edition 2025 and focuses on green urban regeneration.

The competition is open to two categories:

  • New Proposals: schools of all levels;
  • BIG: companies, startups, spin-offs, associations, public entities.

Participants can submit already implemented projects (Reality category) or projects still to be developed (Dream category) by October 31, 2025. The finalists will compete in a speed debating session during the final event in November, where they will have 180 seconds to convince the jury and the audience.

The success of the Genova Global Goals Award demonstrates how sustainability can become a driver of innovation and civic participation. The ASviS recognition not only celebrates the achievements but also strengthens Genoa’s position as a national model of good territorial practices.
