Green Ports PNRR - The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority launches an 8 million euro call for tenders

07/04/2025

The Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea has launched an EUR 8 million call for tenders under the Green Ports PNRR programme, aimed at financing the purchase of electric vehicles for the port areas of Genova, Genova Pra', Savona and Vado Ligure. This initiative is part of a wide-ranging plan of interventions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of port activities, while promoting energy efficiency, economic and employment growth, and environmental protection in the areas surrounding the ports of the Western Ligurian Sea system.

With a total budget of around EUR 8 million, the call encourages the introduction of innovative solutions to improve energy efficiency, financing the purchase of electric vehicles used in port operations. This contribution represents an important step towards reducing emissions of CO2 and other pollutants resulting from the use of traditional endothermic engines.

The adoption of electric vehicles is one of the main strategic measures envisaged to reduce the environmental impact of port activities, helping to create a more sustainable and efficient logistics ecosystem. The energy transition that the AdSP is implementing aims to transform the ports of Genova, Genova Pra', Savona and Vado Ligure into an intermodal hub that supports port development in an environmentally friendly manner.

The next steps in this process include the completion of the electrification of the cargo and passenger terminal docks, the creation of an innovative photovoltaic plant for the production and storage of energy for the port community, and the upgrading of the railway infrastructure, which is essential for more environmentally friendly intermodal transport.

The ecological transition, therefore, is not only an environmental objective, but also a great opportunity to stimulate local economic and employment development. Thanks to the PNRR funds, this process can be accelerated, making the port system of Genova and Savona increasingly competitive, sustainable and in line with modern global logistics requirements.

Concessionaires and terminal operators interested in participating in the call for proposals can consult the guidelines published on the website of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and submit their proposals. Applications will be assessed by a dedicated commission, which will take into account criteria of sustainability, technological innovation and impact on emissions.
