Genova leads the debate on Artificial Intelligence and transparent administration
Genova once again confirms its position at the forefront of innovation related to Artificial Intelligence. In the spring, the city will host the first national coordination dedicated to the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and civic defense. A significant initiative that places the Ligurian capital at the center of a crucial issue for the future of institutions, positioning it to become a point of reference for the correct and responsible use of algorithms in public administration.
During Transparency Day, a mandatory annual event for Italian public administrations aimed at promoting a culture of legality, integrity, and complete accessibility of information, the Liguria Regional Council opened the debate on the frontiers of administrative innovation. This new phase of transparent administration before the Council was outlined by the President of the Legislative Assembly, Stefano Balleari, who emphasized how technological evolution also requires an update of control paradigms: transparency today is called upon to confront new technologies and the use of artificial intelligence.
The debate clearly revealed the need to define a hierarchy between the individual and technology. While Artificial Intelligence represents a valuable support tool for public administration, decisions remain the prerogative of human beings, who retain full responsibility for them. A principle involving practical, organizational and ethical aspects.
The coordination will meet between March and April, in close liaison with the Conference of Presidents of Legislative Assemblies, with a view to structuring a shared path and involving the different regional realities in a common strategy.
Finally, the experts recalled that, at present, Artificial Intelligence operates through data classification and comparison processes, without having an autonomous ability to discern between true and false. This is a technical limitation that reinforces the need for qualified human support, a role that the new national coordination aims to protect and enhance.
Genoa thus aims to guide the debate not only on technological development, but above all on the centrality of the individual, the protection of individual rights, and the guarantee of proper and transparent public administration.
