The project concerns the Giacomo Carlini-Marco Bollesan sports complex, one of Genova's main sports centers, located along Corso Europa in the San Martino d'Albaro district. The area, bordered by Corso Europa, Via Tagliamento, and Via Vernazza, is located in a consolidated urban context close to the San Martino hospital complex and the Albaro university campus.
The complex is mainly used for sports: a full-size rugby field, a historic velodrome with rooms below, a fencing gym, a shooting range, five-a-side soccer fields, and baseball/softball fields, as well as stands and technical areas. Secondary uses include ancillary functions such as offices, storage rooms, changing rooms, technical centers, and an underground garage with approximately 90 parking spaces. The structure is therefore characterized by a multifunctionality that has been consolidated over time, accommodating different disciplines and activities.
The public value generated by the operation is significant: redevelopment of a large historic facility, expansion of services for associations and citizens, restoration of safety and functionality, improvement of accessibility, and enhancement of a strategic sports facility for the eastern part of the city. The project represents an opportunity for urban regeneration with a strong social and territorial impact.
The overall size of the complex is large and varied, including sports fields, stands, parking lots, and service facilities. The surface area of the sports facility (field/outdoor areas/indoor areas) is 31,535 square meters. The stands are quite substantial:
- West Stand:
- Level 1 (2,130 square meters)
- Level 2 (925 square meters)
- Level 3 (22 square meters)
- Level 4 (120 square meters).
- East stands:
- Level -1 (635 square meters)
- Level 0 (1,575 square meters)
- Level 1 (90 square meters).
The complex is completed by a 1,050-square-meter garage and an 875-square-meter under-stand area.
