The Granarolo-Begato Sports Park Project: An Integrated Vision of Sport and Territory
The Granarolo-Begato Sports Park project is one of the most ambitious redevelopment projects for the city of Genova. The initiative aims to transform the area into a multifunctional center of excellence, combining cultural enhancement, adrenaline-fueled outdoor activities, and protection of the natural heritage.
The project is divided into three main functional districts:
Ex Batterie di Granarolo: Socializing and Urban Sports
The area of the former military batteries will be dedicated to recreation and socializing. Surrounded by large regenerated green areas, there will be picnic areas and equipped playgrounds. The sports facilities will be tailored to urban disciplines with the creation of a skate park and a state-of-the-art pump track circuit. At the same time, the restoration of the former military structures will allow historic spaces to be returned to the citizens, repurposed as museums and tourist information centers.
The Sport Park: Adrenaline and Environmental Sustainability
The true “dynamic heart” of the project, this area will be entirely dedicated to cycling, with technical trails designed for all levels of experience. The offering will be complemented by spectacular installations such as zip lines and Tibetan bridges. The development approach will be strictly sustainable: the plan includes massive reforestation and the restoration of surface water channels to ensure the hydrogeological protection of the slope.
Forte Begato: The Strategic and Cultural Hub
Forte Begato will take on the role of nerve center and gateway to the entire system. As the main hub, it will offer essential reception and logistics services, including a station dedicated to bicycle rental and technical assistance (Bike Hub). The north bastion will house an outdoor climbing gym and an adventure park. The interior of the fortress will undergo conservative restoration to host events, exhibitions, and cultural initiatives, ensuring the structure's usability throughout the year.
